No shit dude I just got hired this month as a firefighter/paramedic for my hometown where I grew up! Got honorably discharged the Army a few years ago after a 4 year stint of being an active duty medic. No significant other or family of my own yet for the same reason as yours.
NG has indeed gotten quieter compared to a decade ago. Still kicking though. I make my humble contributions beside my annual supporter renewal :p
